          GOT MILK??

Did I just miss the normal folks bus and end up on the special needs shuttle?? What gives with the current mentality of today’s society?  Here we have an ageing, second tier fashion model groping to launch her sagging career with this 15 minutes of fame at the expense of her son’s understanding of common sense. Here she turns an intimate, (almost sacred) ritual between mother and child, into a media sideshow. Well folks, this just yanks my buds.

Here we have Jamie Grumet, a 26 year old mother/model on the descending slope of a half launched career who figured, ‘what the hell, all I’ve got to lose is to turn my son into bully bait on the playground and possibly warp his libido for the rest of his life.’ The cost of fame.

The media’s is so hooked on snorting the dope of sensationalism, that Lindsay Lohan and Kim Kardashian are no longer enough to jack them up anymore. Kids and their ‘Fruit Loop’ parents are now fair game.

Is Ms. Grumet responding to the real and healthy needs of her son’s psyche, or is he responding to her need to be happy as the center of attention and hopefully on the cover of the Spring Fashion edition of the BEALLs catalog? Who, we can legitimately ask, is feeding whom?

It’s obvious she loves to be photographed and most likely TIME magazine paid her well and likely treated her son to an afternoon at Chuck E Cheese’s. Of course, all this will pass and be forgotten by most, but the visual memory of it will always be a part of her son’s life, many years from now, as he milks cows in some remote monastery in Oregon.

  • I so agree with you and this photo is totally unacceptable.

  • Yeah, I don’t think the photo is necessary, really….

They could have presented their thoughts on extrended breastfeeding without it.

  • Heard about this on the radio on my way to work but didn’t see the cover till now. I thought it would be a gentle mother feeding her infant child.  All the bitching about child porn and pedophiles and they put this on a cover? These people have completely lost their minds.  I was gonna blog on this too, but now that I’ve seen the cover, what I have to say will be very different from what I first thought.

  • I have a sil who breastfed her kids until they were about 3. I didn’t breastfeed my kids that long, but it’s a choice some mothers make, so I’m not going to agree or disagree with it. What I don’t like is this photo on the cover of Time. It doesn’t show a mother and child bonding, it flaunts what she is doing in an almost sexual way. By exposing him to public ridicule, she does not have best interest at heart, and has not thought about the consequences for him in the future. .

  • One of my long time blog friends had a daughter in the inside of TIME with a baby and a 4 year old.  I too think it is not the thing to do no matter how you label it.  I too breast fed but in private without a side show.

  • I did not know that was her son. Would it make any difference. Probably not, but it is as you suggest, a rotten thing to do to that boy. He will never live it down–my opinion.

We had a couple who let their 3 year old daughter run around the house naked all the time–so she would not be ashamed of her body.

I agree with you on this one.

  • “groping to launch her sagging” I really thought you were going to say “breasts”.
What has been seen cannot be unseen. *is disturbed*

  • @ANVRSADDAY -

I’m lost to this new age of thinking.

  • @VampireOfSeduction - That’s a great quote!

  • @TheSunnyC -

You’re right…the key word is “side show”.

  • I am never against boobs but I absolutely agree with your blog.

  • I know adults who remember nursing.  I doubt this will be such a blow to this kid’s ego.  Bullying is the result of improper upbringing.  A kid can and will be bullied about anything!  By this reasoning, we should outlaw interracial marriage again because kids bully children who are mixed, still in today’s classrooms.

What this outrage is really all about… people are horrified at themselves for continuing to see something sexual where there is nothing sexual.  It’s a mother feeding her child, nothing more.

  • Wow.  Good post.  That poor child.  I too had heard about this on the radio but I too expected a more discreet photo.
